Tips To Get Cheaper Home Insurance - Part 3
5. Consider The Amount Of Deductible You Want To Select
The amount of deductible you select will affect your monthly premium significantly. For instance, changing your deductible from $500 to $1000 saves you up to 25% on your monthly premiums.
You should decide what type of coverage you want. Are you looking for a policy which covers all damages on property or just the major ones? Select a low-deductible plan if what you want is comprehensive homeowners insurance. However, if money-saving is your major goal, select a higher-deductible plan instead in which you take upon yourself the risk for smaller claims.
6. Bear in mind not to overstate your rebuilding costs
The actual cost of your home and the cost of replacing or rebuilding your home is not the same thing since the value of your land must be considered. Therefore, there is a big difference between them. Insuring the land under your home from fire, extreme weather or theft is not really necessary. You will be able to realize savings by insuring the value of your home only and not the land too.
7. Ensure that coverage for possessions is reasonable (not too high or low)
Yearly inventory of the items in your home should be taken for assessment of their total value. You might find yourself insured your home and the items in it excessively or you might realize that the coverage you have taken up is not appropriate for the items bought over the last year.
