With almost three quarters of UK motorists backing car insurance providers to take tougher action on dishonest drivers, the Post Office is reminding UK drivers of the risks they take should they provide inaccurate details when applying for car insurance.

Motorists who choose to conceal their motoring offences, such as speeding or using a mobile phone while driving, run the risk of having car insurance claims rejected. Many car insurance companies will not pay out on claims if they discover that customers have provided inaccurate information on their car insurance documents.

The Association of British Insurers study of 2,000 drivers found that 72 per cent of UK motorists would support changes to the information available to car insurance companies during application for new car insurance policies, such as checking driving licences for relevant motoring convictions or endorsements.

The ABI research also found that 34 per cent of UK drivers think that uninsured motorists are likely to cause an accident. In light of these concerns, the Post Office is advising drivers to double check their car insurance policies to make sure they are covered against damage cause by uninsured drivers.
